This summer we will be reading and discussing a really great book by
John Ortberg
Everybody’s Normal Until You Get to Know Them
This is a great book and I know that you will not only enjoy reading it and the discussion on Friday night at Wesely House, BUT YOU WILL REALLY FIND IT VERY HELPFUL IN YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE TOO—especially when it comes to relationships and getting along with others in community.
Here is a brief description of the book:
Community is more than just a word–it is one of our most fundamental requirements in life. But how do flawed, abnormal people such as ourselves master the forces that can drive us apart and come together in the life-changing relationships God designed for us?
In this book, teacher and best-selling author John Ortberg zooms in on the things that make community work the way they are suppose to. You’ll get a thought-provoking look at God’s heart, at others, and at yourself. Even better, you’ll gain wisdom and tools for drawing closer to others in powerful, impactful ways. With humor, insight, and a gift for storytelling, Ortberg shows how community pays tremendous dividends in happiness, health, support, and growth. It’s where all of us weird, unwieldly people encounter God’s love in tangible ways and discover the transforming power of being loved, accepted, and valued just the way we are.
You can even order the book on audio cassette and listen chapter by chapter each week.
Our plan is read and discuss a chapter each week beginning June 8 through the summer. Then on Friday nights at Wesley House we will have an interactive discussion where you can ask questions, discuss Ortberg’s ideas, and grow deeper in community with you ISC friends. BOOKS WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE FOR LOAN TO YOU, BUT IF YOU MAY WANT TO PURCHASE A BOOK OF YOUR OWN. It is that good!
It is true: We are all “special” and don’t need to hide behind our “normal face” but rather let others see us for who we are and learn to love one another in a community of caring and kind people. Then real life can grow and we can become the people we were intended to be.
You you all on Lake Day — June 2, 2007.
Blessings,
Cliff Holubec
