God Answers Prayer

November 19, 2006 · Leave a Comment

Cliff’s fishing tripPart of my personal ministry involves a Fishing Ministry we started a
number of years ago in order to reach out to guys who don’t know
Christ or who aren’t walking with Christ. Each year we plan an
offshore fishing trip in the Gulf of Mexico for Tuna .

This year’s trip (scheduled one year in advance) was on board The
Pelican on November 6–8. The three trips prior to ours had all been
cancelled due to bad weather—high winds and high seas. One week
before our trip the seas were scheduled to be way too high with winds
expected to be around 20 knots or higher.

But our ISC community along with the 12 guys going on the trip
continued to pray EVEN HARDER than we had during the entire year.
We waited for the Lord’s revelation and His calming the seas up until
Sunday morning November 5 at 10:00 am. It was then that Captain John
Brennan of The Pelican decided that we could go head and go because
the winds and seas had begun to change and were looking very
favorable.

When we left the dock Monday morning at 5:30 am the seas were very
passable (some larger swells) but not really rough at all. By the
time we reached our first fishing spot 74 miles out, the seas and
wind were even better. Our final destination was a floating oil
platform 142 miles out in the Gulf. Within 2 minutes of reaching it
we were catching Yellow Fin Tuna.

The total catch for the boat (12 fishermen) was as follows:

1. 30 Yellow Fin Tuna (averaging 62 lbs. each) LARGEST 108 LBS.

2. 25 Amber Jack (averaging 30lb.s each) LARGEST 68 LBS.

3. 100+ Black Fin Tuna (averaging 7–8 lbs. each)

4. 12 large Barracuda

5. 4 Grouper LARGEST 50 LBS.

6. 2 Mahi Mahi ( 25 lbs. and 18 lbs.)

Total weight of all fish cleaned 3100 lbs.

We actually arrived back at the dock 11 hours early because the fish
boxes were full and we couldn’t put any more fish on the boat. A
cold front that approached early morning on Tuesday the 7th gave us
little trouble and we were able to avoid rough seas by starting our
return trip a little early.

Praise God not only for an abundant catch but for the relationships
with the guys on the trip. About half of them were guys willing to
fish but not currently walking with Christ. We have already seen
some wonderful results and opportunities to share the love of Christ
with them in deeper ways than before the trip.

I attribute the entire success of this trip to ONE YEAR OF PRAYER
and the prayers of our ISC community the week before when the weather
was not suppose to be good enough to even go. I also know that the
prayers we prayed immediately before getting on the boat and the
prayers of thanksgiving and recognition of God’s power when we
returned to the dock were and are being used by God’s Spirit in the
lives of all 12 fishermen and the Captain and crew..

Thanks again to our ISC Family.

In Christ’s love,

Daddy Cliff
