I will begin planning the trip in more detail tomorrow, so please email me this weekend if you would like to go on the trip with Courtney and me.
Q: Can I invite friends?
A: Yes. If the friends are people you want to spend two days in the car with and several days camping, then we would like them to come too.
Q: I’ve never been camping before. Can I still come?
A: Yes. We’ll teach you how to camp. Actually, staying in the pop-up camper is as easy as camping can get. Staying in the tent, is a little bit more work, but it’s still not too hard.
Q: What does it cost?
A: About $60 + fast food on the drive. Since most of the equipment is borrowed, and we’ll buy groceries in Austin to take with us the cost is pretty reasonable.
Q: Have you ever been there before?
A: Yes. I’ve been to Big Bend twice before, but it was many years ago. Even though I was young, I was impressed by the starkness of the desert landscape and by the constant fight for survival of all the plants and animals in the region. There’s a lot of different geography in the area and it is intimidating to be there among it. I have a lot of respect for the people who first tried to settle the area and eventually mostly failed, leaving behind the remnants of their farms, ranches, and mines. Big Bend is a place where you can feel very small. I have a camera now, and I want to go back and try to recapture some of the austere majesty of the area.

Hello, everyone! I hope that you’re having a great weekend!
We know that the semester is just beginning, but we want to invite you to come join ISC for a camping trip over spring break!! We will be going to Big Bend Park in west Texas. The Indians said “After God finished making the earth, he took all the leftover pieces and put them at Big Bend”. It’s the most wild, most rugged, and maybe the most beautiful part of Texas. And now you have a chance to see it .
We will leave on March 13 (Saturday) and return home on March 17 (Wednesday). We’ll go hiking, take photographs, and ride in Tim’s Jeep. Guys will get to sleep in a tent, and girls will stay in a camper.
The campsites fill up very early! Tim needs to make reservations next weekend, so if you plan to join us, please let Tim know by Friday, January 29. You can email him or call him at 512-973-9447 if you have any questions.
